This too will pass

One of the most priceless of teaching that helps with depression, is also one of the simplest. But teachings that seem simple are easy to misunderstood. Only when we are free of depression can we claim to have trully understood the following story.

The new prisoner was afraid and very depressed. The stone walls of his cell soaked up any warmth; the hard iron bars sneered at all compassion; the jarring collision of steel, as many gates closed, locked hope beyond reach. His heart sank as low as his sentence stretched long. On the wall, by the head of his cot, he saw scratched in the stone the following words: THIS TOO WILL PASS.

These words pulled him through, aas they must have supported the prisoner before him. No matter how hard it got, he would look at the inscription and remember, ‘This too will pass.’ On the day he was released, he knew the truth of those words. His time was completed; jail too had passed.

As he regained his life, he often thought about that message, writing it on bits of paper to leave by his bedside, in his car and at work. Even when times were bad, he never got depressed. He simply remembered, ‘This too will pass’, and struggled on through. The bad times never seemed to last all that long. Thgen when good times came he enjoyed them, but never too carelessly. Again he remembered, ‘This too will pass’, and so carried on working at his life, taking nothing for granted. The good times always seemed to last uncommonly long.

Even when he got cancer, ‘This too will pass’ gave him hope. Hope gave him strength and the positive attitude that beat the disease. One day the specialist confirmed that ‘the cancer too had passed’.

At the end of his days, on his death bed, he whispered to his loved ones, ‘This too will pass’, and settled easily into death. His words were his last gift of love to his family and friends. They learned from him that ‘grief too will pass’.

Depression is a prison that many of us pass through. ‘This too will pass’ helps us pull through. It also avoids one of the great causes of depression, which is taking the happy times too much for granted.

Reading this article ‘wakes’ me up.. that there is no single thing which will last forever. That’s why I want to remind myself each time the line this too will pass.. no matter its good or bad.. ^^ This line actually can give courage in facing difficulties in life… ^^ and prevent us to attach with happiness too long… :)

The Power of Media

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Mic Microphone on the left is usually used in the media, esp. radio and TV. Well… today I had an interesting lecture on communcation as a means to convey information on food safety by the NSW Food Authority (if not mistaken with the name of the authority). ^^

Well, the community’s vision is easily blurred by the message conveyed by the media. The media has a very strong power to affect the way people think since it covers a huge population. Sometimes, they like to exaggerate things, so the show looks more interesting. Thus, I think we can’t trust 100% the media. We need to see their objectives behind, then we have to analyse their argument on thing first, is it reliable? Cos its such a pity if we believe thing that is not completely true…

My diet

Sunday, October 16th, 2005

Lately, dunno why, my diet is sooo bad… I realised that it will bring bad effect on my health, well if not now, in a long run it will… I eat mostly 100% full, well I know that theoritically 80% fullness is just enuf and good for your health. Geez… starting from today on I have to keep reminding myself to stop eating after I JUST feel stuffed. Im a bit worried with my health though… cos I find that my health is not as good as the old days’… I have to improve it now!!!

My plan:

1. Exercise regularly. Im planning to wake up a lot earlier in the morning (if i can) and jog around my place for about 30 mntes.
2. Eat till I just feel enuf. I have to stop eating until I reach my 80% fullness.
3. Eat slowly. It will help my digestion and let me know when I’m full
4. Go to bed earlier… in this case, if I can… ^^

Hopefully, I can manage to do all of those… heheh Gambate, Rosie!!! ^^

Bali Bombing

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

Just a couple days ago, in Bali there was another terorrist attack: suicide bombing! It has taken death tolls, many Indonesians killed and some of Australians. Fear and anger are all around: Australia and Indonesia itself. Actually I feel so sad and sorry about it. I wonder, why all this happens.. but rather than thinkin that way, why dont we all just let it go… What’s happened has happened. I think, the way to solve this problem is not by attacking physically the terrorrist, but instead FORGIVE them! Hatred never be won by hatred, it must be defeated with the power of LOVE! But, its just the nature of humans, if you treat them bad, they will treat you worse and vice versa. But, don’t we all realise that hatred neva can be defeated by hatred? We all are going to be around the vicious cycle…. it will never end. We all have learnt history, but why cant we learn from the past? War never solves a problem… I wish, all the government can be wise in solving this problem. Love will heal the wounds… May no more war and disputes occur…

Cinderella Man

Sunday, October 2nd, 2005

I watched this movie yesterday. Seriously, this movie touched me (was dropping a few tears hehe). I like Crowse’s character (James Burddock –> forgive my spelling if im wrong). The movie is based on true story (and this add the value and the meaning of the movie for me). Watching this movie makes me see that LOVE can give someone courage and strength! Love too can make people to do whatever they can to help and protect the ones they love.

My favorite part is when James had to embarrassed himself to beg for pennies and when he was about to lose in a match- not the championship match/ the very end match- (I thought he would lose the match, cos his ribs were hit so many times and he had a blurry vision). At those moments I couldnt help not to cry hohoho…

Moreover, I like the last match! ^^ I wont tell you how the story ends.. hehe in case, pple havent watched the movie read my blog, and they want to see the movie… ^^

Conclusion: The movie is highly recommended!!!!! Very good movie, indeed =)
