Life is a Spiritual Journey

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Life is a series of tests. Difficulties are tests.
We are in school now. Our whole life is a school.
From the time we were born until we die, we are in school.

Life is an informal school, no classroom. Everything we see, we hear, we smell, we feel, all happiness and suffering, every problem, every achievement, every success and every failur is a lesson. When we have success, it is a test. It is testing how humble we can be when we are successful. Most of us become very proud and conceited: "Oh! I am a success. Other people are failures.".  So we dont treat people with respect anymore. We become conceited and arrogant.

In the same way failur is a test. How equanimous can you be? How can you keep your balance and not feel depressed, inferiror, or unhappy about not succeeding. Also it is a test to find out whether you will try again.

They are an entry I took from a book titled "Life is a Spiritual Journey" written by Bikkhu Jotinanda (edited by Lesilie Shaw).

Here are some of other lines I love from this book:
" Concealed in every new situation we face is a spiritual lesson to be learnt"
" Your whole life is a spiritual lesson we are here to learn. We are here in this world, in this human life, at this time of history to learn what we need to learn"
"Everything in this world has a hdden meaning"

Seriously, I love this book! Since its so uplifting, inspiring, light but profound :)
Hopefully, you will find a brighter view of life after reading this few lines… :)

Bodhinite 2006

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Wow… It was sooooo much happening!! Was feeling so excited last night :) I joined choir and lil bit of sketch this year… hehe I m no more snake… lol

O yeah, just knew that my auntie and cousin will go back soon on Tuesday… Hmm so fast… :( thought they would stay longer …

Btw, let me draw you back to bodhinite. It was the night of UNIBUDS’ anniversary night. We have it every year, to celebrate its birthday. Its the biggest night of UNIBUDS (UNSW Buddhist society). We hold it in Clancy Auditaurium (with 900 sth capacity) and yesterday was full!!! Amazing!!! I felt great though standing on the stage!! Happy too to see many of my friends came. Coincidently, when I went to toilet and on my way out, I bumped into my friends (70% of em!!) haha What a coincident, ey! Since I had to stay at the backstage all the time, since I needed to stand by for the show.

One more interesting thing happened. The pics taken captured some deva’s lights (heavinly beings). Okay, before people get confused of what Im saying here, I think I have to explain what I mean. Well, I know this phenomena when I went to combined Vesak celebration at Circular Q. My friend told me bout it and showed me the pics. I actually didnt 100% believe him, well I was amazed and took his words for about 85%… hahaha sorry! Until I went to a winter retreat at Sunnataram Monastery, Phra Mick (a monk) showed us a video about this!! And according to them, the ‘balled lights’ are the devas (heavenly beings). Not everyone could be able to capture this things. Only people with good deeds and pure hearts will be able to capture them. If before taking pics you have the intention to capture the balls, you will fail! So, most of the pics that show the phenomena are ‘coincidently’ happened. I have seen this kinda things mostly at Buddhist ceremony. Especially when a lot of prayers are said. Amazing, indeed!!

Let me show you what I mean. I would attach the pics… Just try to look for translucent balls… ;) You can believe what I say or not, its up to you. anyway, I dont have prove to say whats written is true… So yeah… ;)

Independence Day

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Today, is my country’s Independence Day… Hmm it’s 61 years old this year… Quite old, ey!! LOL haha well, it is 3 times older than me… hahaha My cousin’s parents and her brother are here atm… =) So glad to see them… they all look happy =) Good!! Yet there is something that I see that is not really good, yet being afraid to tell: they are getting heavier… Hmm, especially my cousin, his belly is protrubing obviously… Doesnt look healthy, yet cant say a word… afraid to offense… Well, I think his wife can tell him, instead of me… For my auntie and uncle, it is understandable if they put on more weight, since they are getting older and the metabolism is getting slower… so yeah, its easier for them to pile up more fats..

I just did a quiz (www.growyouthful.com/quiz.php) recommended by my Gened lecturer. It is interesting though to do this quiz. It sets a list of questions, and from the questions they can tell how old approxiamtely your biological clocks. So, even though numerically you are 22 years old, your body age might be lower or higher. Luckily, mine is 20 years old, which means that Im 2 years younger than what Im supposed to be… LOL Good news, ey!! haha Well, even so, it recommends me to shed a bit of fats… since my body weight is within the heavier side of normal BMI… Well, dunno why, since young I have a tendency to have higher body weight, even though I dont look like as the number shows… Some of my fellows said I have heavy skeletals… hmm who knows… haha hopefully, (and i think) now my body weight shows more muscle weight than fats.. haha Well, have to check my fat composition accurately to see if its true…But ey, I do plan to lose a bit of my weight.. cos I want to shed the belly fats… :(

I’ve received my tax return!! haha Add up my savings!! Yoopyy!!! =) Yet, I have to use my money so wisely, cos I plan to save more hahahaha

I read a buddhist book today, and it really impacts me so much!! Now I feel much much better than before, and see things differently!! ^^ Now my aim is to prove what the Buddha has taught!! :) Frankly speaking, I dont believe 100% of all the teachings unless I’ve proven its truth or feel the same way as what it’s said. So I can say I follow his teachings and find the truth… :)

Nice days…

What is nice, what is awful? What is correct, what is wrong? I reckon, all are in your mind. The things you see is preconditioned by your mindset. When your point see it as wrong, then it will be wrong, yet it might not be the case for someone else.
So guys, before you judge people, you have to judge and see yourself first. Cant just blame others you think that have done a mistake according to YOUR mind. Yet, morality cant be separated from this judgement. In some cases, people set the wrong/correct actions on morality. Again, morality is actually bias. Why? Cos its influenced by your culture and upbringing. Its sometimes hard to blame parents (esp the ones from very conservative upbringing) on how they treat the children…. Everything is actually hard to judge. So, why bother judging>? Just let it be… and see it as it is… ;) Hard? I think so… but not undoable…. Again, in this case, wisdom has a big role… Its not a blind unjudgemental thing…. I dont know how to pour my thought… hopefully ya’all get it :) Not simple, yet not complicated.

Tonight, when I went to a computer shop to return and buy something, I met this guy. Funny… We didnt know each other, yet we could talk freely, I mean, not in personal talk, but sth about computer (of cos with the sellers as well)… I think, the seller thought we’d known each other before, cos he asked so. As far as I concern, I dont think we ever saw each other before… yet he thought the other way, he found me familiar. Indeed, we both are UNSW students, so its possible for him to bump into me at uni, but didnt recall I ever met him. Funny, ey! :) Its actually quite nice to talk to a random person, even though the chat was light and short.
Too bad, forgot to ask his name… haha otherwise, he’d become on my friend list!! :) hahaha… We’ll see in the future if I have another chance again to meet and talk to him… ;)

On Monday, I worked casually at a new (and different) place. Its a cafe inside a manufacture (if not mistaken, or else, an office-like manufacture)  called British Australian Tobacco. The working environment was so nice. Frankly speaking, I enjoyed working there ;)

I see, if you want people to be nice to you, firstly, YOU have to be nice to the persons. I have tried this theory, and found it true. When I worked there, despite the fatigue (I had due to previous works and lack-of-sleep) I greeted almost everyone passed through. And I could see the change on their face colours. From grey to bright colors. :) Nice and give you a good feeling too!! =) A simple greet sometimes can change people’s mood.

So… everyone, hope you all have a good day!

whatever will be

Sometimes I feel like a bird with broken wings

At times I dread my now and envy where I’ve been

‘Cause that’s when quiet wisdom takes control

At least I’ve got a story no one’s told

I finally learn to say

Whatever will be, will be
I learn to take

The good, the bad, and breathe

‘Cause although we like to

To know what’s life’s got planned

No one knows if shooting stars will land

These days it feels naive to put your faith in hope

To imitate a child, fall backwards on the snow

‘Cause that’s when fears will usually lead you blind

And now I try to under-analyse

Is the rope I walk wearing thin?

Is the life I love caving in?

Is the weight on your mind

A heavy black bird caged inside?

"They are lines of a song of Tammin Sursok: Whatever will be"
I love this lyrics!!! Seriously!! Meaningful! :) U agree?
